Section: Summary

Koji sits in a cleft, remembering the words Duskmon spoke to him. While JP, Zoe, and Tommy go off looking for Angler in hopes of finding a ride to the Rose Morning Star, Duskmon has a chance meeting with Cherubimon. Duskmon says he cannot fight his brother, and Cherubimon responds by showing him images of his mother, who had suffered because their father had left her for another woman, taking Koji with him. With the darkness in his heart renewed, he slide evolves into Velgemon.

Meanwhile, Koji tells Takuya the same thing; he cannot fight his brother. Takuya tells him that he’s the only one who can purify his brother and rescue him from the control of Cherubimon and the Spirits of Darkness. With Koji still unsure, Patamon and Aldamon enter into battle with Velgemon. Finally, after some soul-searching, Beowolfmon enters the fray, defeating Velgemon, and scanning the Spirits of Darkness, returning Velgemon to his human form, Koichi Kimura.

Dialogue Deviation

Junpei: It’s no use. We can’t reach them.
JP: Oh, Beans, they can’t hear us.

Why beans? I just want to know – why beans?!

[Macho Duck: I guess now we know where all the beans for their three-bean salads went…]

Tomoki: Bokomon…I wonder where they went.
Tommy: Oh, Bokomon, where are you when we need you the most?

Now sure what you need him for, but alright…

Neemon: He went on ahead.
Bokomon: Going off as he pleases could turn out badly…
Neemon: Maybe he just got lost!
Bokomon: I suppose you meant for that to make me feel better.

I dunno, kinda makes me feel better.

Hehe, Bokomon made up an attack. Rubber Punch is apparently when he snaps Neemon’s waistband. This isn’t localized in the dub, though.

Section: Side Note

In the original, Kouji is the younger twin. In the dub, this is not mentioned.

Cherubimon’s frog voice is becoming increasingly irritating. Even corrupted, he’s an angel-type Digimon, and he’s not a frog angel.

Dialogue Deviation

The dub did its usual switching around of words and concepts to avoid the whole “Kill” concept. Some things never change.

Prepare yourselves for Bokomon and Neemon dubbery:

Neemon: What are you doing up there?
Neemon: How’s the view from up there?

Neemon: Patamon went on ahead, so we went looking for him.
Neemon: Well, I’m glad that’s out of the way! I thought I was going to have to change my name!

Bokomon: I have no idea what he’s babbling about…
Bokomon: Well, it rhymes…but the syntax is dreadful.

Junpei: I don’t know…but it’s better than being left in the dark, doing nothing!
JP: I’m not really sure…yes I am, I’m absolutely sure we should do something!

JP has a real future in politics.

Tomoki: Yeah, that’s right!
Tommy: It’s action time!

Pterodactyl! Triceratops! Power Rangers!

Section: Cut or moved footage

Beowulfmon’s evolution sequence was lengthened.

Section: Digimon Analyzer

Beowülfmon’s Helle Klinge becomes Beowolfmon’s Beo Saber.

Kouichi Kimura’s name is respelled as Koichi.

Dialogue Deviation

Silence
Angler-Trailmon: Hello, Liebchens!

Weird that they couldn’t keep Duskmon’s German or Lobomon’s Spanish origins, but they had to do this.

Section: Digimon Analyzer

Patamon’s Air Shot becomes Boom Bubble in the dub, just like before.

Section: Side Note

Patamon’s taking on Velgemon one-on-one, and everyone’s just sitting around having a nice conversation about Kouji having a twin brother (in both versions).

Section: Cut or moved footage

Cut: less than one second

A shot of Takuya’s mom bashing him on the head is cut from the dub. The next shot, therefore, of Takuya holding his head has no explanation. However, the dub did shorten the length of the shot to make it a little less obvious.

Takuya’s daydream about his little brother Shinya is touching and all, but five minutes later, Patamon is still fighting Velgmon all on his own… And apparently in both versions, Takuya is a nutcase. With Velgmon going nuts trying to kill everyone in sight, he’s telling stories about his little brother to Kouji. Seems like a bad time to be reminiscing, but what do I know? I’m not a world-saving pre-teen.

Dialogue Deviation

Koji: You really do live in a different world, Takuya!

I mean, you all do. That’s kind of the core premise of this show.

Takuya: You can scan him and return him to normal!
Takuya: All your brother needs is a little Fractal Code, Digitize!

Don’t say it like that, Takuya.

Section: Side Note

And now Patamon’s run out of air, and they’re still talking. Is no one paying attention at this point?

Section: Digimon Analyzer

Velgmon’s Master of Darkness becomes Velgemon’s Dark Vortex.

Dialogue Deviation

Velgmon: Pitiful!
Velgemon: Now we’re talking!

That’s all everyone’s been doing all episode!

Final Verdict

Summary

Episode’s pretty par for the course for Frontier’s dub. Lots of nonsense dialogue and jokes thrown in for no real reason. Patamon’s the MVP, though.
